High Performance Goalkeeping History

Independent goalkeeper glove brand · United States

High Performance Goalkeeping, known as HPG, was founded by Jon Busch, who played 21 seasons as a professional goalkeeper. The brand says the idea came during Busch's time with the San Jose Earthquakes: give every youth goalkeeper the chance to wear professional-quality gloves at an affordable price.

Busch was an NCAA All-American at UNC Charlotte and spent his first five professional years in the USISL, where he was named Goalkeeper of the Year in 2001. The Columbus Crew drafted him in 2002, and he won the U.S. Open Cup there before moving to the Chicago Fire in 2007. He was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008, later played for San Jose and retired in 2018 after two seasons with Indy Eleven as a player and assistant coach. He also represented the United States at the U-17, U-20 and senior levels.

HPG sells directly to keepers instead of through retail stores, and the brand says every product is designed, tested and worn by Busch.
